Hell’s Gate National Park covers an area of 68.25 square km and is situated in the environs of Lake Naivasha about 90 km from Nairobi. The park is 14 km after the turnoff from the old Nairobi-Naivasha highway. It is characterized by diverse topography and geological scenery. Itinerary Details

Pick up from your hotel in Nairobi morning at 07:00 hrs and depart to Lake Naivasha. The drive will be about one and half hours, with a break to get views of the Great Rift Valley from a scenic viewpoint along the way.

Upon arriving at the park at roughly 08:45am, proceed to Hell’s Gate National Park, begin a 2-hour, guided bike tour: watch out for herds of Thompson’s gazelle, eland, zebra, and hartebeest as you ride.

Keep an eye on the sky throughout the tour, as Hell’s Gate National Park is home to more than 100 species of birds, including Verreaux’s eagles, augur buzzards, vulture, and swifts. Walking safari through the park’s distinctive gorges, where narrow passageways and caves are sunk into sedimentary rock.

After a hour walk, you will break for lunch at Sopa lodge Naivasha. For an additional fee of $30 per person, you can explore Lake Naivasha wildlife on a 1-hour boat tour. Spot the hippos that linger just at the surface of the water, and see some of the diverse birdlife; African fish eagles, lesser flamingos, African spoonbill, and little grebe are all common here.

At 3pm, begin the return trip to Nairobi, and finish the day with drop-off in Nairobi at roughly 5pm to your hotel.

7:30am: Early in the morning, we will start our full day trip to Hell’s Gate National Park with a 90km drive from Nairobi at the hotel of residence taking the route leading us to the Park. Hell’s Gate National Park is just a short hours drive from Nairobi – making it a perfect day escape. This Park lies south of Lake Naivasha in Kenya, north west of Nairobi.

8:45am: Stop over at the Great Rift Valley view point on the eastern escarpment to see Mt Longonot, Mt Suswa, and the expansive floor of the rift valley.

10:00am: Arrival at the hells gate national park bike riding (optional) and walking safari. Your guide will assist you to hire a good bike for the hells gate bike ride. Hells gate guided walking safari start immediately from the gate in the company of an experienced guide. (bike ride is optional)

1:00pm: Enjoy a picnic lunch in the hells gate national park picnic site with the view of the park and as you watch the animals walking around.

2:00pm: You can choose to go for a further walking safari in hells gate national park or visit the lake Naivasha to enjoy an optional boat ride and see hippos, birds, and the best views of the mountains beyond. Optional visit to Mvuke spa swimming pool to swim in naturally heated and biggest swimming pool in Africa.

3:30pm: Depart Naivasha for Nairobi and arrive at 6:00pm with a drop off at your hotel or JKIA Nairobi International airport. This marks the end of your 1 day hells gate national park hiking tours.
